Free AAC app for iPhone, iPad and Android
Pictures that speak for you.
Sanoo is a talking picture board for people of all ages who can't rely on speech, and for everyone who helps them communicate.

How it works
Tap pictures to build a sentence, then speak it.
Words sit on picture buttons that stay in the same place, so hands learn where they are. Tap them into the sentence bar, then tap Speak to say it out loud.
Buttons follow the Fitzgerald Key, a color code widely used in AAC:
Core words
Actions
Things
Describing words
Social words
Questions
More than 600 Sanoo Originals pictures are built in. Search thousands more from ARASAAC, or use your own photos.
Languages
Speaks the languages you use.
Sanoo and its starter words come in 11 languages. Each button can speak in its own language, so one sentence can mix the words people use at home, at school and at work.
- English

- Español

- Tiếng Việt

Each word is spoken in its own voice.
Real people
Put the people who matter on the board.
Build a face in a minute: skin tone, hair, head covering, glasses, beard and age. Or take a photo. Save a person once and put them on any button.
Every face here was made with Sanoo’s face builder.

Accessibility
Works with switches and shaky hands.
Sanoo works with switches, ignores accidental repeat taps and keeps buttons big and clear.
-
Switch scanning
Rows light up, then buttons. Press a switch, a key or anywhere on the screen to choose. Set the pace from quick to slow.
-
Steadier taps
Ignore repeated taps from a tremor, hold a button to speak it, or add words without speaking each one.
-
Big, clear buttons
Choose how many buttons fit on a screen. The board always fits without scrolling, and text follows the device's text size.
-
Easy on the eyes
A calm dark mode, and screen reader labels on every button.
Paper backup
A paper board for when the battery runs out.
Print one board or all of them, with the same pictures, colors and positions as on screen. Save it as a PDF, and keep a copy in a bag, at the pool or by the bed.
Web editor
Set up boards on a bigger screen.
Open the web editor on a computer and type the code the app shows. Edit with a mouse and keyboard, then send the boards back with a new code. No account, and every code expires within 10 minutes.

And the everyday things that help
Profiles
Several people can share one device, each with their own boards and settings.
PIN-protected editing
Anyone can use the board. Editing can be locked with a PIN, so nothing changes by accident.
Model without speaking
Show words on the board while the device stays quiet, so others can see how to use it.
Word suggestions
Suggests the next word based on past use. Quick phrases say a whole sentence with one tap.
Without speech
Turn speech off and use Sanoo as a silent picture board or picture dictionary.
Sentence history
See recent sentences and the most-used words. They stay on the device.
Free and private
Free, with no catch.
-
Free, no ads
No price, no subscription, no ads and nothing to unlock.
-
No account
Open the app and start talking. There is nothing to sign up for.
-
Nothing tracked
No analytics and no trackers. Boards, photos and history stay on the device.
-
Works offline
Once a voice is installed, the board speaks without internet. Sanoo tells you if a voice still needs a download.
Questions people ask
Who is Sanoo for?
For anyone who can't always rely on speech, or who communicates better with pictures, and for the people around them: friends, family, carers, teachers and therapists.
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no paid version, no subscription, no in-app purchase and no advertising.
Does it need internet?
No. The board, speech and printing work offline once a voice is installed. You need internet to search ARASAAC pictograms or use the web editor. Some devices also need it once, to download a voice.
Which languages does it speak?
The app and its starter words come in English, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Spanish, Swedish and Vietnamese. Each button can speak in any language your device has a voice for.
How do I keep boards safe?
Export your boards as a file from Settings, or let your phone or tablet's own backup include Sanoo. A printed board is a good backup too.
What does the name mean?
It's Finnish: “sanoo” means “says”. Sanoo is made in Finland.
